BSCO Mission: Our mission is to keep the peace in Brown County, which includes

  • Stopping or preventing actions that violate Ohio laws or individual rights
  • Promoting safety and providing peace of mind in matters concerning the safety and security of life or property

Our deputies, corrections officers, and staff work tirelessly to keep the peace—24/7—while working within the severe   budgetary constraints of the day.

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1968, Dwayne Wenninger moved to Brown County with his family at age three, and he’s been a proud and contented resident ever since. Attending school in Mt. Orab and Hamersville, he earned his high school diploma from Western Brown in 1986. After receiving advanced training in robotics at the Technicron Technical Institute, he built and managed his own construction company until an interest in law enforcement became the focus of his career.
In 1988, he became a corrections officer for the Brown County Sheriff’s Office and completed a comprehensive police training program at Southern Hills in Georgetown.  As a deputy, he moved into the Road Division and advanced into various areas of law enforcement and investigation. Winning the 2000 election, Sheriff Wenninger took office in January of 2001. He was re-elected in 2004 and again in 2008. He and his wife Tammy reside just west of Georgetown, Ohio with their two children who attend the Georgetown Exempted Village Schools.
